This is where our story began 14 years ago. The kids and I made our way down to spend a night with Grandma and Grandpa Richards before we took off to Montana.
As luck would have it - my decision to take the kids and the boat for a fun trip away was not going to be problem free. The tire separated, grabbed onto the (brand new $300) fender and bent it inside itself. To make matters worse, we were in a zone with no cell service and no.one.stopped.to.help.
I collected the tools needed to change the tire and determined the wheel wrench was too big for the lug nuts. I used a socket set and a 30 cm handle to attempt to loosen the impossible lug nuts. I could not crack them to save my life. Then Will gave me the idea to jump on the handle. I was able to make that work. After the tire was removed the fender was the next factor of impossibility. How to bend it back? My bare hands couldn't do it, so Logan proposed using a set of Vice Grips. It worked! We just can't say the fender looks anything like it was done by a body shop.
1.5 hours later, we were back on the road.
I taught my Cub and my Scout how to change a tire. They taught me a few things too.
And we made it! To a beautiful little campsite on the lake.
And Ryan made it down for the weekend.
We are in love with the turquoise water.
What goes up; must come down.
We toured other lakes in the area. Sadie is overlooking one of those lakes.
Here's a lovely view of our boy.
We celebrated Quinten and Colby's birthday while we were away. We made a trip into DQ for some ice cream. It was the closest they got to a cake.
On our last night in this serene campground, Ryan had left to return home and we were left feeling uncomfortable with the neighbors in the campsite next to us. So, we packed up in search of better accommodations.
We found this beauty:
Happy Campers
We stayed in a State Park on Flathead Lake. It was amazing compared to the company we shared in the previous campground. The kids played around in the water.
Watched Paddle Boarding
And just generally, found a reason to smile.
Spectacular Flathead Sunsets
There really is nothing more wonderful than relaxing with a good book in the great outdoors.
Chase made friends with the Camp Hosts and they 'allowed' him to drive their golf cart. He really did press the gas and take off unexpectedly.
Montana was wonderful. It never disappoints.
