Leapin' Lizards

A picture says 1000 words (at least; that's what they say)
I like to tell stories with pictures. So this is a summary of the past 4 days - mostly through pictures.

At about 3pm every afternoon, the sun is extraordinary. The temperature has been 102 in the shade and the only way to survive is to play in the shade at one end of the pool. Pool play gets to be a little boring until you have a load of boys to make a simple task more complex.

Will getting launched to Outer Space.

Along with the heat comes the need to stay hydrated. Water has already become blah-zai SO what better to liven it up with freshly picked limes (and a tbsp of sugar) Yummm. The intense flavor of these limes is surprising.

Our trip was the long haul. There are many flight options but our choice this year was to leave at 5pm from Calgary and fly to Houston to stay overnight. We got the kids to bed at 11pm and then woke them at 5:30am. Sadie did not nap at all on the day we left Calgary so the 5:30am wake-up call the next day was unfortunate BUT she was a trouper. A miscommunication on the fact of receiving vs. NOT receiving our luggage for our overnight stay meant that we were with 5 children and living out of a diaper bag for 12 hours!! No teeth brushing, no change of cloths, no PJs ... We learned it's quite efficient to be low maintenance.
Fun, moments like riding a shuttle from the Houston airport to our hotel will be memories that will last a lifetime (as the boys rarely ride a bus). This is a picture of Team Canada awaiting their plane in Houston.

Touch down in Costa Rica. Picture taken by Mom. Sorry for all the scenery that appears brown and dry. This is, in fact, their dry season.
It's no wonder the poor thing fell asleep in the car after landing.

Enroute from the airport to Grandma and Grandpa's Casa
Quinten caught a nap in the car....I was supporting his head and was unable to capture that phase.
Colby upon waking.

Our Van. Totally funny to look at BUT surprisingly spacious.
This is where you'll find us.

Upon arrival we found Mr. Mouck has hand made a high chair for Sadie out of solid Guanacaste wood.

This is access gate that takes us down the path to the beach.

Path to the beach is a narrow dirt walking path (sorta like a lake access path - but MUCH narrower) and bordered by Hibiscus and barbed wire.

Our schedule is as follows:
Kids awake at 5:45 am, every day, simultaneously, as if an alarm has sounded.
We eat breakfast and pack our bags for the beach. We often drive to a more distant beach which has shade AND a more gentle shoreline for friendly toddler play.

This is NOT that beach. This is also NOT that beach. This is the high tide water where a Crocodile made his home last year. I really wish Sadie would not wander so much. At this point in our vacation story you are hopefully seeing that life is not all bliss. You should now be noticing that there are some worries and I seem to have an amazing way to accumulate material to be later presented in the form of nightmares.
And then there's other amazing factors like the plain, ordinary Sun, Sand and Surf. Miles of beach unoccupied and room to run.
After the beach we return to the Casa for lunch and ....
Nap ... or, in Sadie's case; a little of both. Seriously, everyone naps. The heat, the sun ... it sucks the life right out of us.
Then we're rejuvinated for an afternoon full of random fun activities ...with limited exposure to the sun until after 3:30 pm because otherwise we'd be overcooked.

And sometimes all you want to do is play in the water and wash your big brothers shoes? Although I'm certain you've received the message about the power of the sun. It's still impossible to believe we are even on the same planet. Colby and Quinten are SO fair skinned that an application of 60 SPF 3 times a day still lead to a considerable burn on their arms SO we paid a personal visit to Margaret; a custom swimsuit maker that made the boys rash guards with sleeves down to their wrists.
Sadie is our evening entertainment in the hammock swing. Finally at 7:30pm we are prepped for bed and ready for a bedtime story. And the cycle is repeated after a night's rest.
